John McKechnie (Amherst '77) has joined the Raptors Athletics Staff to become the College's first Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. The team will begin competition in the spring of 2009. McKechnie began his coaching career at Amherst College where he was on the football and men's basketball staffs before becoming the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach in 1984. During his tenure, he compiled a record of 60-31 and was a two time finalist for the DIII Coach of the Year. His 1987 squad won the New England ECAC Championship with McKechnie being voted as Coach of the Year by the New England Lacrosse Coaches Association. During his tenure at Amherst, he produced seven All-Americans and five players participated in the elite North vs. South Game. After completing his successful stint at Amherst, McKechnie moved to the College of Wooster where he continued to make his mark in the in mid-west by hosting USLCA clinics in Ohio, Michigan and Missouri. He coached the Wooster Fighting Scots from 1995-2000 where he became a member of the Intercollegiate Century Club and was second in career wins in coaching records. McKechnie was also a member of the DIII All-American and National Ranking Committee. McKechnie's focus at Bard will be to provide depth and instruction while providing strong coaching based on his experience as a seasoned coach.

Sofia Commito, sophomore women's tennis player, led Bard to a 8-4 record and a Skyline Conference Finals appearance at #1 singles in 2009. Commito was also a First Team All-Skyline selection in 2009 and the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in 2008 after helping Bard to a Skyline Conference Championship.
