Varsity Sports

The College sponsors thirteen intercollegiate programs for men and women under the guidelines and philosophy of the NCAA Division III. The basic purpose of an Division III athletics program is to stimulate and provide intercollegiate athletics programs for student-athletes and to promote and develop educational leadership, physical fitness, athletics excellence and athletics participation as a recreational pursuit.

Bard student-athletes enjoy a blend of training and competition along, with team leadership and community activities. Athletics is a complement to the academic life on campus with a clear focus given to excellence in the classroom, laboratory, stage and auditorium. The department staff assures that athletics is integrated into campus life as an important component of one's undergraduate experience.

The College's sports sponsorship includes men's and women's basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Men also compete in squash. Beginning in the spring of 2008, men's and women's track will also be an intercollegiate program.

Athletic teams compete under the auspices of the National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA Division III.

Bard is also a member of conferences in various sports, including:

  • Skyline Conference (beginning fall 2007)
  • Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
  • North East Collegiate Volleyball Association
  • College Squash Association
